Senior Living Environments
Senior living communities call for art programs that create a familiar, homelike environment. The artwork should be intellectually stimulating while at the same time easy to see, with clear lines and strong colors. Again, in order to reach a diverse resident poplulation a variety of images and mediums is important. Figurative and fiber pieces, for example, are especially effective in assisted living and Alzheimer’s units, where they create a calming effect. In senior facilities art also serves to identify areas of a building, the grounds and outlying areas. Specific pieces act as guideposts, helping to give seniors a sense of place and promote
feelings of security.
